I know the swimsuit made an appearance on last year's list, but it still feels like something that a lot of girls struggle with, including me, so I'm going to reconquer the swimsuit. Shorts are a big fear for me but I'm going to find the perfect pair and it's going to be fine! I wear strapless things a lot, but never without some kind of cover-up, so for me the strapless challenge is about bearing my shoulders and arms.
I know some of these things can seem daunting to us when we've been told our whole lives to cover up and be ashamed of our bodies, but last year I learned that breaking out of my comfort zone can be incredibly liberating. So be brave and join me in breaking some rules and proving we fatties can wear anything! You can always set your own summer challenges if these ones seem to easy/hard, everyone has different comfort zones.
And of course I'll be recording my progress with these goals right here on the blog!
I hope you'll join me and keep me posted on how you're doing.

Lovely to hear from you again Beth, I've really been enjoying reading your blog!
ReplyDeleteIt's autumn here in Australia, so summer challenges might not be for me. One challenge I am taking this cold season though, is to wear patterned tights, as normally I don't like to draw attention to my legs.
I look forward to seeing what you come up with, and if you have any advice on finding a strapless bra that can be both supportive and comfotable, let me know!
xx Bek :-)
Swimsuit options seem to get better & better every year (although costs increase too...) but I still can't commit to shorts. I'm a capri girl all the way!
ReplyDeleteI love strapless but the strapless bra alludes me. I have never had one that didn't hurt while wearing it (side bones sliding, pushing, digging?). So I'm on the hunt & looking for advice!
I went outside my clothing barriers this month though & placed my first online clothing order & purchased SATIN CAPRIS!
@Bek - ooh, I LOVE patterned tights. Strapless bras seem to be something a lot of people have trouble with, I'll try and write about it soon and see if I can get some good tips together. Thanks for the lovely comment xx
ReplyDelete@Emma - Satin capris sound amaaaazing. I agree with you on swimsuits, there have been some really cute options coming out and I'm so happy to see anything that isn't black or an ugly floral print. I have a strapless bra from Evans that is amazingly supportive, but I cut the side bones out because they kept digging in. It didn't seem to stop the bra from being supportive though, so that's good. I'll write about strapless bras on here soon because it seems to be something a lot of girls struggle with.
I got a pretty great suit from torrid that I am planning on rocking this summer, and I am definitely committed to finding a pair of shorts that I like. I've never had a problem going strapless, so I guess I will just continue to rock that look. As for strapless bras, I usually just wear a cotton bandeau bra. It stays up with elastic and it is very comfy, but it might not work as well for those who are bigger busted. www.curvycanadian.blogspot.com
ReplyDeleteooh I definitely want to try a version of my own summer challenge on my blog this year! You've inspired me to break out and do more with my body..now to see if I can stick to it! LOL *hugs*!
ReplyDeleteArrrgh!! Strapless, I've never had a problem with. Its the shorts and swimsuit that's going to be an issue!! I wore one pair of shorts once last summer. I will try my best to get over this self-consciousness and anxious feeling of wearing both swimsuits and shorts! x_x
ReplyDeleteOh, and about those strapless bras: I have a convertible bra from Lane Bryant, in a size 46B, something that I have yet to find anywhere else, ever!! It comes with two sets of straps, bra-colored and clear (although the clear straps look a bit cheap to me.. i don't care for them too much, I'd much rather let the strap show in a spaghetti style top), and the strap comes off. They don't stab, bind or roll up on me at all, with or without the straps. I believe they're about $38 each, but I got them on deep, deep clearance; I was able to purchase 6 bras for about $30.
ReplyDeleteI am definitely going to try swimsuits and short, I think. I went sleeveless last year and it was SO freeing! I'm still not entirely sure about shorts but I'd love to give it a go.
ReplyDeleteGlad you're back, as well - missed you, lady!
xxx
I'm so glad you're back! I need to work on all three of the things you mentioned. I already bought two pairs of shorts that I am determined to wear out. The sleeveless thing is the hardest for me, but I'm hoping to step out on that one too. Swimsuits have always been a struggle for me. I always wear some type of bottom with them. Hopefully I can brand out there.

I recently started going swimming after about 7 years of not going. Once I got into the pool I realised there are people of all ages and sizes in there and no one really cares about my wobbly bits. It was really liberating. I do go sleeveless sometimes on hot days, but shorts, not so much!
ReplyDeleteSounds great!
ReplyDeleteI don't mind going strapless or wearing a swimsuit but shorts drive me crazy. I absolutely hate them.
I guess I just haven't found a pair that fit like I want and things always bunch up weird or give me a wedgie. No fun!
Now I'm thinking that I might need a new swim suit... hmm.
i'm with you on all three of these, especially the strapless and shorts. i always avoid them and that is why i am so pasty white. time to show some skin.
