Stamp of Approval

Happy December everyone!

I’d like to get the ball rolling on a new feature here on Pretty in Plus, and it’s one I’d love you guys to help me out with. What I want to do is create an award; I’m calling it the Fat Girl’s Stamp of Approval. And every month I want to take on a different item of clothing (jeans, bras, boots etc...) and ask you guys which retailers you recommend for each one.

So this month I’d like to start with jeans. I know some of you don’t wear them that much, while others of you live in them. But if you’ve ever found that perfect pair of jeans that ticked all of your boxes, it would be great if you could tell me about them. All I need to know is where you got them and what was so great about them. Tell me whose jeans fell short of your expectations too, if you like.

You can leave me a comment on this entry, send me an email (beth[at]pretty-in-plus.com), send me a tweet or write it on my facebook wall. It’s all good!

At the end of the month I’ll write a post listing the most glowing reviews and telling you which stores got the most mentions. I’ll also add my own opinions to the mix. Hopefully what we’ll end up with is a perfect little guide for any plus-size girls who aren’t sure where to get their jeans, as well as some good tips for retailers on what we bigger girls are looking for when we shop for them.

So get reviewing, ladies!
Whose jeans get your stamp of approval?

  1. At present I'm really struggling to find a good pair of jeans. All my usual haunts either don't have my size or they are totally sold out! My last few pairs of great fit jeans have been from Simply Be or Joe Browns. They are true to size and have the right leg length (I have stumpy little legs only 29"!). Also I have a large stomach and I'm relatively slim hipped so I want jeans were the waist fits around me but I don't have masses amount of fabric around my hips and thighs. Simply Be and Joe Browns tick those boxes.

One thing I long for is a perfect fitting pair of jeans - my skinnies from Simply Be have hit pretty close. However, I am looking high and low for a pair like the ones you have in your picture - where are they from?

  4. I actually really like Torrid Jeans. I have been wearing the Torrid Source Of Wisdom Jeans lately and they are comfortable, chic, true to size and nice quality.

  5. I'm in desperate need of jeans. I carry all my weight in my lower stomach area which makes it really hard to find anything that fits and looks decent.

I've heard good things about the brand "Not Your Daughter's Jeans" http://www.nydj.com but haven't had any success finding them around here.

Really looking forward to the recos in this post. :)

  6. Thats a nice new feature and some I havn't seen around the the blogs I am reading.

I havn't found my perfect pair of jeans...I once had them, but I was about 3 or 4 sizes smaller than today, they were from a German shop called C&A and I loved them. I always have the problem with jeans, they my belly pops put and the jeans falls down under it xD annoying, to I will look forward to the review!

  7. YAY! Can't wait for the replies..
Im always on a constant search for my ultimate HG jeans, only ever came close with an Evans pair in 2006 and they had to go in the bin last year lol *sad sad sad*

Im really after a slim leg that isn't too tight around the knee area but still slim at the bottom of the leg and hips.. do they even exist?
    I don't suit proper skinnies! :@

  8. nice feature.
I haven't worn ACTUAL jeans in a long-ass while, so does jeggings (the ones that actually look like jeans, not leggings) count? ASOS indigo jeggings got my win. Not only do they look like jeans, they're SO comfortable, true to size, have pockets and belt loops AND buttons, and they're the perfect skinny pant. love!

  9. I like Reitman's for jeans - they have a "comfort fit" that has no button or zip, just pull-on, but are proper jean material. They look good and fit really nicely.

Also, I have a really nice pair of dark wash wide-leg pair from New Look Inspire, except I think I need to size down next time, as they are generous in their sizes.

And jeggings from Old Navy are awesome too.

  10. I love jeans. My current favorites are Calvin Kleins. They are starting to fall apart so I'm on the hunt for another pair.
I love the jeggings from Old Navy too!

  11. I literally live in jeans, all day every day! But I am still looking for that perfect pair! I have too much weight in my stomach, but quite slim legs, so its a problem!

I've just ordered the ones in the picture from Yours. They are actually a really good buy as they are JOE BROWNS jeans. I got a Joe Browns pair from them the other month, which come up nice and high on my stomach, and are quite fitted in the leg.

I've got one pair from Evans that are pretty good, but haven't found another pair in there like it!

  12. I have a beautiful pair of flared jeans from Asos, which are the only pair I've had in a while that have ticked all my boxes. I'm very bottom heavy, so big thighs/bum and flattish stomach, but they fit me well. The best thing, though, is that I've struggled a lot to find a pair of jeans long enough. Normally, jeans don't quite cover my shoes if they also come up high enough on my waist, but this pair does both :)

  13. In regards to tall + plus size jeans, Dorothy Perkins are fabulous!
South (Very/Littlewoods) on the other hand are terrible, really big fitting.

  14. My Torrid brand jeans are the best! Some of their other jeans by different designers are sometimes smaller in size, but the Torrid brand ones always fit great!
