All you need is scissors and a pair of black leggings. Actually I guess they could be any colour, but black is what I've gone with. As I mentioned before, you can pick up a decent plus-size pair from Walmart for $10, and that's where mine came from. In the UK, Dorothy Perkins and Evans are both good options.

All I did was put the leggings on, stand in front of the mirror and cut holes in them while wearing them. If you try this, be careful not to cut yourself! By being in front of the mirror and having them already on, I could see exactly where I wanted the holes. Remember that your body (especially if your thighs are like mine) will stretch the holes out, so make the holes smaller than you think you want them, you can always make them bigger later.

Black cardigan - New Look Inspire
Belt - Addition Elle (I'll stop wearing this in EVERY outfit post)
Black Leggings - Walmart
Boots - Evans
Easiest DIY ever, right?
Now, the gorgeous J of fatshionable posted the other day about layering pairs of leggings, and that inspired an idea. Wouldn't a pair of slashed up leggings look amazing over a pair of coloured leggings? Not a bad idea if you're feeling self-conscious or if it's too chilly to have holes everywhere.
Here's the result:

I think I'm going to make a follow-up post where I layer these over some green leggings I have, but for now since I'm all about the plum colours, I'm pretty pleased with this. The only thing I will say, is do this on a cold day - because it's pretty stuffy wearing two pairs at once.
I like this! Especially with the blue leggings underneath. I also really like your belt!
ReplyDeleteI love the idea!!! I think I equally like skin showing through and a pop of color showing through. I'm going to try mesh leggings in some form of combination.
ReplyDeleteOh yea, that was me, lol.
